I had the most amazing week at Popcorn. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and I have learn't more in that week, about the industry, then i could in a year at uni. They gave me some amazing advice, and some personal advice as to how to get ahead of everyone else when applying for jobs and different ways of putting myself out there. This sort of advice coming from Patt is so valuable because at the end of the day, he will be the sort of person i will be applying to for a job. I think what I'm most grateful for, from the whole week, is the advice i got. Yes, i learn't more software skills which will help, but the advice to my own profession has helped no end.
Being trusted to be able to work on my own briefs for people as important as the Princess of the UAE has really boosted my confidence, it was like being dropped in at the deep end but you learn a lot faster that way and i think thats the sort of mentality i am going to take on in the future.
There were little things that the guys passed onto me that will help me in the future, for example Mateusze gave me about 20 links to look at every morning because he finds this is the best way to gain inspiration. and it especially helps if you are struggling with something.
I have learn't different ways to document things and research things. I think more than anything, i want to push myself with this year to detach myself from the course and push myself as a professional. This past week has really shown me what I can accomplish and how best to go about it, and now i have the confidence to take it on further.
I am really happy with my week and I cannot wait to start my next year with this new perspective. I am also really looking forward to going back to them in a couple of months because I have been invited.. Cant wait.
The book they got to me to say thank you...

Popcorn Day 5 - Logo designs
These are the final logo designs, that will be used to put together a proposal for the Princess of the UAE ( Al Asayl show jumping)
Popcorn - Day 5
Today was all about creating the logo for the UAE. The main aim was to create 3 different logo's that they could possibly use for the future. This was a really satisfying process, I actually managed to produce some this that was elegant and process. It was such a great learning curve and Patt showed me a lot of techniques to help produce the quality logo.
I actually intend to use this logo to help towards my dissertation. It's a logo that relates quality. Which in turn will kelp with some primary research for my dissertation.
Patt and I went through my initial sketches, and crossed out the ones we didn't like and took not he ones we did. this meant taking some aspects from each design. It was really useful sitting down and laying ally he designs out and then crossing through them. Im still working out this process, and Patt really helped in guiding me towards the best process. Although it was really helpful.
My initial designs, working out the shapes and the lines. The simpler the lines and the easier flowing the better the images look.
The chosen 4 designs. Just as initial designs to see how they look.
Like the first 3 bit hate the 4th, bottom right.
Another attempt at playing with the title, but looks a little childish.
Thursday
Popcorn - Day 4
This morning I had to finish of putting the right guard logo onto the required finishes. This wasn't an overly complicated process just time consuming.
I did manage to learn a lot on photoshop though, making the processes to establishing a logo that looks realistic and has a good finish. This is something that I can defiantly take on into the future, it's something I have been working on myself, and its been really helpful having some professional guidance and experience into showing me how to best use the software and techniques.
After finishing this logo design, and Patt was happy with the placement, the images were then used to create a proposal for the client and it was all sent off. Its really satisfying to know that my work has been sent to a client, and if they like it they will run with something that is similar. I really feel that I have accomplished something. Although this work doesn't really relate to what I want to create, i realise that I am still learning and all experience is good experience.

UAE - After finishing the Right Guard project I then went onto do some initial sketches on the previous brief for the Al Asayl project.
Tomorrow, the plan is to go through the initial sketches with Patt so as to establish the best possible solution. Then i will be going on with the design work, hopefully i will be able to design the logo.
Wednesday
Popcorn - Day 3
After showing Patt my initial sketches and ideas, Which he really liked. It was a case of spending the of the day bringing the logo together and if I had time applying it to the 3 break down images Patt wanted to use as a reference.
The whole process was quite challenging because it ad to be perfect and I was working a lot in photoshop and Im not an expert in that. Having said that, Patt and Steve coached me through some processes, and it has really opened my eyes to the potential of photoshop, and i intend to use it a lot more in my future work. It was really educational, and using the processes in a working environment has really helped me again some processes I am going to take on in the future.
Taking on the initial sketches I have done and turning them into a
vector format so as to play with the layout and style of the structure and
image.
Adding more details to make it a little more complex. So theres
a little more detail. However, i think its starting to look a little
more girly, so it's best probably to simplify it. I think it needs more
of a rocky look.
Patt wanted to add more people, so I looked into using some of the
stock images I had used in the research. By adding a bit more
colour just to highlight specific hierarchy.
While trying to use stock images, Patt showed me an easier way
of using images that look more realistic, using photoshop to enhance the images
making them more grainy and have a more realistic feel. This is something thats
really useful because i can use this technique in future work.
I also added a small little bit of graffiti style artwork, because
it gives more of a grungy affect that works with the style of the logo being used.
Logo in situation.
Variations of the logo and its layout and size. As well as playing
with the colour swatches and styles in order to make a generic
colour palette.
Final chosen logo.
I had a really good day, I think the experience of working under a boss and working for a client has really helped shape my style of designing. It was challenging trying to incorporate my ideas and join them with Patts as he had a specific idea of what he wanted, but as much as it was a challenge it has really helped me understand the workings of a studio. Its really helpful.
